I just want to make you right again for eating a Primal diet, as taught to us by Aajonus in We Want To Live, The Primal Diet. He cites sources of scientific agreement in the Recipe Book particularly, which I love. (It May be time to Re-read them!)

I am emphasizing what Aajonus told us:

We basically are eating a diet that our body types have been eating for millions of years. Grass fed bison and other wild meats, lamb, beef, humanely raised pork, pasture-raised poultry, wild-caught fish, A2 grass-fed milk and milk products, organic everything from here: avocado, raw apple cider vinegar, the green juice and berries, citrus, fruits related to apples and peaches, pomegranates, figs, dates, mushrooms, nuts other than almonds and peanuts (which are not nuts, but legumes), coconut, flax, hemp and psyllium seeds, olives, dark raw chocolate, onions and herbs, and leafy greens.

His knowledge as we have it in his book and lectures is added to by some specific information on LECTINS I have found recently. He probably had this information, but I have not had the specifics until now:

Our lack of eating grains directly or via the meat and milk we eat is a key factor in our health. Grains, pseudo-grains, and beans were introduced about 13,000 to 10,000 years ago, and our ancestors and their gut-buddies never had to deal with the lectins from these seeds. Lectins are proteins built into the seeds to protect them from being eaten. They cause problems in the animals who eat them to reduce the amount anyone eats, so that the seed can sprout to new plants.

In terms of how bodies work and change over time, “getting to know and developing an immunological tolerance to a new lectin within a ten-thousand-year span is like speed dating-it simply cannot be done.” (a quote from The Plant Paradox, by Dr. Gundry)

“In contrast, the ancient foods we [have been] eating have been the sources of vibrant human nutrition for millions of years. Perhaps just as important, the lectins and polyphenols in these beneficial plants and their leaves have been prevalent in the human diet for so long that your immune system and your gut buddies have developed an intimate and symbiotic relationship with them.” That means you NEED them to be healthy. (Also from The Plant Paradox, Dr. Gundry)

Dr. Gundry poses an interesting question: “Do you want to trust a plant that mankind has dealt with and with which it has developed a mutual admiration for over millions of years, or one that humans first encountered just a few thousand years ago? If you are hesitant to answer, let me have Dirty Harry answer for you: ‘You just got to ask yourself one question, “do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?’ After treating tens of thousands of patients, I can assure you that the folks who thought that they would get lucky by eating whatever they wanted are the same folks who believe that the house wants you to win at a casino.” (Azvolinsky, A. 2016. Http://mobile.the-scientist.com/article/46603/primates-gut-microbes-evolved-together. Accessed 11/27/2016)

Gundry published his findings on curing/remission of multiple autoimmune diseases by manipulation of the human gut microbiome with a lectin limited, polyphenol enriched, prebiotic/probiotic regimen on 78 patients (the ones he tracked for the study).

No wonder we get well on this diet!
Healthfully Yours,
Marilyn at RA
