Spring is solidly here, and the days are longer. Food is growing, and all the early greens are abundant. It is time to juice! Get your 4 to 8oz juice in before each meal, to keep your acid/base balance in, get your vitamins and minerals, and, of course, keep your magnesium levels up.
The farm has vegetables that we can order too. Find out what is being offered each month/week! Also look for biodynamic, locally grown fruits and vegetables, to have a better chance of getting all your minerals.
Cities everywhere have challenges getting good, farm-fresh food, all raw. WE are so lucky to have each other, and to have had the education we have on truly raw, healthy food. How to get it. It took a lot of work for Aajonus to check out many farms and decide on the farms in Lancaster County. He had to teach them how to do things our way, and remember more of how farming used to be done. Even there, the convenience of a diesel motored fork lift and generator has slipped in, and there are large metal tools for cheese making and sausage making.
One really has to keep learning, searching, reading and listening to keep up with the new findings, realizations, and methods to live long and healthy lives.
One member just sent me information on Linus Pauling’s cardiac health program. In the article, the author mentions that Vitamin C (Pauling cured cancer with this, you know) competes with sugar for getting into cells, apparently needing the insulin assist just like sugar. This is so interesting, because, of course, Magnesium is needed to produce insulin, and for it to function.
I am realizing that people I talk to about Magnesium are not “getting it” the same way I do, because they are seeing it as another nutrient, mineral, another thing to do. To me, it is an essential part of every action of every cell, because it is absolutely necessary to the creation of the small energy “batteries” that are made from glucose, and for the release of that energy in chemical reactions that keep cells alive, are needed to produce proteins, hormones, muscle contraction, digestion, respiration (breathing) and EVERYTHING. Vitamin C is also necessary for many functions, as is Calcium, etc.
We sort of define ourselves as Iron-dependent organisms, which is true, but even undercutting that, and in common with all other living things, we are magnesium dependent. Magnesium is so abundant naturally that our blueprint sort of assumes it will be there in abundance.
I’m finding support for my theory/belief/knowingness. People do dramatically better when they get on a good fish oil/lipid regime, without necessarily supplementing magnesium. Why? Well, every cell in your body needs lots of good fats to make and maintain their cell wall! It is absolutely essential to life, and should be a strong focus of every person’s diet. Not only that, but the correct balance of Omega 3’s and 6’s and magnesium help each other!! The magnesium you have can get in the cells better with the correct oils present. (The cell walls are made up of oils and proteins.) And it can do it’s job of moving other ions, like Calcium across the cell membrane better if the correct oils are there.
You cannot disconnect these things, and claim one thing is the cure-all. Magnesium is needed for lots of other things to work: as in Calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium and chloride. Medical science seems to acknowledged these other minerals, necessary for heart function, muscle function, and nerve function, but magnesium seems to be the forgotten child. It may be because it takes special tests to know the real magnesium level in the body. The body will keep the blood levels up at all costs, taking magnesium from the muscles, the bones, the teeth, some other organ that is still functioning, in order to keep enough magnesium in the blood to keep the heart beating. Duh.
We aren’t talking about some minor deficiency. We are talking 100 of our most common ailments all being improved with magnesium treatment alone. The top 3 killers in our country are: Cancer, heart disease, and auto-immune disorders. With medical treatment itself being a close contender (death by medications). This last one is also helped by magnesium therapy.
By studies, most men are 80% deficient, and most women are 70% deficient in magnesium. That means that you are getting 70-80% of the energy you could be, most likely have premenstrual symptoms (women), anxiety, depression, maybe just on occasion. Are prone to hardening of the arteries, osteoporosis, arthritis, skin cancer, some skipped heart beats here and there, somewhat high blood pressure, somewhat high cholesterol.
You may be one of us who are more deficient, due to drinking fluoridated water, bathing in it, using fluoridated toothpaste, fluoride treatments, exposure to pesticides, eating all manner of foods that are grown on magnesium depleted soils, and animals raised on magnesium deficient pastures and grains, not to mention that the heart and cholesterol medications, the anti-depressants and medicines for kidney problems all have Floride in them, and use up magnesium, so the symptoms can become worse over time. Then, sugar. Whew! Uses a lot of magnesium. So the white sugar, white flour, ice cream thing, eaten when depressed, is going to just cause more of it in the short and long run!!
Chemicals, pesticides, radiation from cell phones, etc. all need magnesium to be neutralized.
Asthma, Parkinson’s, cancer, all heart problems. All can be caused by magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium kicks out mercury, and other heavy metals, and pesticides, chemical we don’t want, etc. You can actually feel worse upping your magnesium, as you detox. But the good news is that you cannot overdose, and there are NO bad side effects (unless you have really bad kidneys–then you have to watch out). Also, if your cells are really deficient, when they start to get some magnesium, they wake up and want MORE. One can experience muscle cramps unexpectedly; it can happen if you get too much calcium without balancing it 1:1 with magnesium.
The Magnesium Miracle has all the details, research, and answers to most of my questions. I highly recommend reading it.
